Citadel EHS provided multi-site industrial hygiene and environmental health and safety consulting for Beyond Meat, supporting research and development, pilot plant, food laboratory, office, and related operating environments in California, Missouri, and Pennsylvania. The work focused on helping the client better understand workplace environmental conditions, ventilation performance, employee exposure, and cleaning effectiveness across a diverse portfolio of food innovation facilities.
At facilities in Columbia, Missouri, and Devault, Pennsylvania, Citadel conducted comprehensive indoor air quality and workplace assessments that combined facility walkthroughs, HVAC review, real-time IAQ monitoring, ventilation measurements, and cleaning efficacy testing. Citadel measured temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide; evaluated air velocity and estimated air changes per hour; reviewed HVAC components and operating conditions; and conducted ATP surface sampling to assess cleaning effectiveness. Findings were used to develop practical recommendations related to ventilation, occupancy, facility practices, and cleaning and disinfecting protocols.
Citadel later expanded this support at Beyond Meat facilities in El Segundo, California, including a food laboratory and corporate office environment. Industrial hygienists evaluated common indoor air quality parameters and mechanical ventilation performance, calculating air changes per hour and comparing results with ASHRAE and other industry-accepted guidelines. Reports incorporated measured IAQ conditions, ventilation data, calculation worksheets, and Certified Industrial Hygienist quality review.
At Beyond Meat's El Segundo pilot plant, Citadel also performed an occupational noise survey and personal noise dosimetry to evaluate employee exposure and identify higher-noise operations. The assessment included real-time area sound-level measurements and eight-hour time-weighted-average personal dosimetry, with results evaluated against the Cal/OSHA Action Level for occupational noise exposure.
Through these assignments, Citadel helped Beyond Meat translate environmental and occupational health data into practical workplace controls and informed EHS decisions. For food and beverage companies operating laboratories, pilot plants, manufacturing spaces, and corporate environments, this type of integrated industrial hygiene support helps protect employees, evaluate facility performance, maintain regulatory awareness, and address workplace health concerns without disrupting critical research, product development, and operations.
