Hyperscale Data Center Noise Assessment

Citadel EHS provides industrial hygiene and occupational noise consulting for hyperscale data center facilities operated by a global technology company. Citadel’s work includes assessments at data center facilities in Red Oak, Texas, and Bristow, Virginia, supporting the client’s efforts to understand and manage employee noise exposures within complex, continuously operating technology environments.

Citadel conducts personal noise dosimetry and comprehensive sound level surveys to characterize employee exposures and identify higher-noise areas throughout the facilities. Monitoring includes employees performing their normal work activities as well as stationary and area measurements near potential noise sources. Within data halls, Citadel collects sound-level measurements at multiple locations along server rows to develop a detailed understanding of noise conditions throughout the operating environment.

Exposure data is evaluated against applicable Federal OSHA Hearing Conservation Program Action Level and Permissible Exposure Limit criteria, as well as the ACGIH Threshold Limit Value. Citadel documents work activities and noise sources, identifies areas where hearing protection may be appropriate, and develops facility-specific findings and recommendations. Sound-level measurements are also mapped to provide the client with a practical visual tool for understanding noise conditions and managing occupational exposure across data center operations.
