Los Angeles Sports Arena Redevelopment

Citadel EHS provided environmental and industrial hygiene consulting during development of two major Los Angeles Football Club facilities: Banc of California Stadium and the LAFC Practice Facility and Field at California State University, Los Angeles. Citadel supported project teams with subsurface assessment, construction-phase soil characterization, hazardous materials guidance, and worker and community air monitoring to help address environmental conditions encountered during active construction.

At the LAFC Practice Facility, Citadel supported development of a FIFA soccer pitch and approximately 18,100-square-foot, two-story facility with a partial basement. Building on previous Phase II subsurface assessment work, Citadel evaluated discolored soil and suspected asbestos-containing transite piping encountered during excavation. Soil sampling and analysis for petroleum hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, and Title 22 metals provided the project team with information to guide soil reuse, stockpile management, and disposal decisions.

Citadel also implemented worker and perimeter air-monitoring programs to evaluate potential exposure to arsenic associated with fugitive dust. Monitoring included active work areas and site boundaries near residential properties and student housing.

At Banc of California Stadium, Citadel performed full-shift compliance air sampling for respirable dust and crystalline silica during material-mixing activities. The assessment evaluated worker exposure against applicable Cal/OSHA and ACGIH criteria and provided recommendations for ongoing exposure assessment and control.

Through responsive field support and defensible environmental data, Citadel helped project teams evaluate changing site conditions, make informed construction decisions, and protect workers and surrounding communities during development of LAFC's stadium and training facilities.
