Vapor Intrusion Assessment and Mitigation Design
Start a conversationOverview
Vapor intrusion occurs when volatile chemicals or gases in soil or groundwater migrate into buildings and affect indoor air quality. These conditions can create health concerns, regulatory challenges, redevelopment constraints, and potential liability for property owners, developers, and facility operators. Citadel EHS helps clients identify, evaluate, and mitigate vapor intrusion risks through comprehensive site investigations, risk assessments, mitigation system design, and regulatory support.
Our team develops practical solutions tailored to site-specific conditions, including both new construction and existing buildings. From initial assessment through system installation, performance verification, and regulatory closure, we help clients protect building occupants, maintain compliance, and support successful redevelopment projects.

How we've delivered

Private Industrial Property Owner
Risk-Based Vapor Intrusion Mitigation for an Industrial Redevelopment Property
Citadel EHS provided expedited regulatory support at a former industrial warehouse property in Emeryville, under oversight from the Alameda County Department of Environmental Health (ACDEH) – one of the most stringent regulatory agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Prologis
Former Kaiser Aerotech Facility – Environmental Remediation & Redevelopment Support
Citadel EHS has provided long-term environmental remediation and redevelopment support for a former aerospace and aircraft manufacturing facility in San Leandro, California. Aerospace manufacturing operations occurred at the approximately 14-acre property from the mid-1950s through the 1990s, resulting in chlorinated volatile organic compounds, including trichloroethene (TCE) and its degradation products, in soil, groundwater, and soil vapor.

Centennial GH Partners
Comprehensive Environmental Assessment, Site Investigation, and Mitigation Design – Los Angeles County General Hospital Redevelopment
Citadel EHS performed an Environmentally Regulated Materials (ERM) survey for the redevelopment of the Los Angeles County General Hospital in Los Angeles, California. The survey included the main hospital building, a multi-wing, an 18-story building with a basement, a concrete structure with multiple levels and areas of roofing, built in the late 1920’s to early 1930’s.
